Our Story
A Passion for Growing Local
It all started back in 2017, with a back porch on a duplex and a few potted plants. There have been a lot of ups and downs over the years but the passion to raise our own animals and grow our own food has never waned. Beyond just the urge to grow a few veggitables, we've found ourselves enthralled with permaculture and symbiotic agriculture. Each year we aim to improve our current practices and research/expand into new potential avenues. Our compost circles allow us to greatly reduce food waste while providing vital nutrients to grow more produce. We hope to eventually expand into aquaponics within the next few years.
Growing With Nature
A Better Way to Farm
Our farm is small, only 6 acres in size. You won't find spralling fields of one type of crop here. We try to maximize the space we have by utilizing agriculture methods that work with the land instead of tilling it into monoculture plots. Plants of various species grow next to one another in our compost circles, providing protection to each other and helping to cycle the nutrients in the soil. Watermelons and pumpkins spring up form the center of berry and banana circles, while pine cone ginger and canna lillies help absorb extra moisture. Our young orchards contain a wide variety of fruit trees and shrubs including peaches, plums, and mulberries. Manure from our animals provides fertilizer for growing trees and our grazing fields.
Because we want to work with nature and not against it, we try to limit the use of pesticides and herbicides as much as possible. Medications are given only to sick plants or plants with parasites, while weeds are pulled by hand. We try to cultivate an ecosystem of natural predators to help keep our pest population down. Spiders, ladybugs, wasps, and mantises can all be found on our farm and are welcome partners! To help limit the spread of disease, new plants are quarantined before being added to garden spaces and plants are kept with a minimum distance between them.
Combining Science and Nature
A Great Farm Uses Both
We believe that the best methods involve science and natural practices. We both have strong backgrounds in science, especially animal biology and medicine. We use proven tests and diagnostics when treating our plants and animals. If fecal tests come back positive for intestinal parasites we treat acordingly with a proven dewormer: not pumpkin seeds or diatomaceous earth. We take biosecurity seriously and do our best to limit exposure between wild bird populations and our own flock.

Our animals are seen regularly by the veterinarian and are kept up to date on their vaccines. We also feed proven, complete feeds in addition to treats. Medications and preventatives are given in accordance with current veterinary science.
